Q: Battery care, pls help me clarify :)
Just got this 2015 rMBP and first time mac user.
Regarding with battery care, I have been searching for clarifications on the ff since my mbp most of the time stays at home right now.
I read most people leave there mbp plugged in when at home to minimize cycle counts and have it use for about 50% at least once or twice a month.
1.) My battery is at 100% charge so now it runs on power adapter right and theres no risk of overcharging the bat?
After using my mac or before going to bed, I mostly read that there's no much difference in leaving it either on sleep mode or shutting it down. But since It will be left unused for long hours, I would prefer shutting it down.
2.) After shutting down should i unplugged it and just plug it in again before turning it on?
I also read that macbooks don't charge batteries coming from full charge until it dipped at certain percentage like about 95%? Going back to question no. 2, if I will unplug it after shutting it down granting it is 100% charged. With this logic when I plug it again before using it will be run directly on power adapter right?
3.) Would it be better if I do it Shutdown > unplug > plug > turn on? and just have it run on battery up to 50% once every two weeks?

1. The OSX controls battery charging. There is no risk of overcharging.
2. It makes no difference. I would leave it plugged in only because it is one less thing to do.
3. When a MBP has been fully charged (100%), the charger will stop charging the battery but provide power to run the MBP. At this point the battery acts as if it is stored on a shelf and will very slowly discharge. When the charge level drops below 95%, then the battery will start to be charged again as well as power being provided to run the MBP.
Two rules:
If you run the MBP with the charger connected all the time, at least once per month run the MBP with the battery to about the 40% charge level before reconnecting. Lithium ion batteries need exercise for long life.
Never totally drain the battery. That will shorten the useful life of the battery.
Ciao.
