Q: I purchased a used mac running OS x yosemite.  The iphoto app was damaged or incomplete.  I can not go to the app store and find it under purchased apps, since I am not the original owner.  How do I get iphoto??

I purchased a used mac and the iphoto app is damaged or incomplete.  I trashed the app and am trying to reinstall the app, but since I am not the original owner of the app, I can't get it from the app store.  Please help on how to either purchase the app again or how can I get iphoto to work on my imac.  I'm using OS x yosemite 10.10.5

You can not. and you should not use software that does not belong to you at all, it is a licensing violation. Erase the Mac and from Recovery reinstall all you need, under your license this time.

There is no way you can. As Csound1 points out it's not your app. You would need to purchase a licence but you have another problem: you can't purchase it as Apple no longer sell it.

So, for you the only thing to do is make sure you have 10.10.3. minimum and use the new Photos.app that comes with that. It will open an iPhoto library if you have one.
