Q: when  I turned my ipad on, all my email disappeared

When I turned my ipad mini2 (version 9.3.5) on, I clicked the mail icon and saw that there were 18 messages and when the program opened, they were all gone. This is not the first time that happened. One other time after being turned off all night, they showed up the next day but not this time. Why does this happen and this makes the ipad unreliable if I needed the mail. Can anyone tell why this happens and how to fix it? Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Sylvia

In most cases, this happens when a computer user has a desktop or laptop in addition to, say, an iPad. If the settings aren't correct, you can "lose" email. It can happen if the ISP changes their settings, or if a user has incorrectly input their settings.

Based on the information you provided, you only have an iPad. In that case, I suggest you double-check the settings, especially at it elates to the ISP.

Thank you for your immediate response!  :-) I do have an iPhone as well as Dell PC. My provider is Earthlink  and has been since 1996. I have never had this problem with my iPhone and wonder why these message up and disappear when they were there??

The messages appear and disappear because your computer downloads emails, then deletes them because the settings are incorrect. I've seen this happen on two of my machines, and fixing the configuration resolves it immediately. You can fix the settings on your iPad by going to Settings/Mail/Account. Make sure you have your settings and passwords handy, and correct. "Add Account," and choose "Other." Add the "Mail Account" and "Server Account." If you have any question what these are, you should contact Earthlink for the configuration info. Configuring your iPad might take take some trial and error, so exercise patience.

Just so you know... If you really need a "lost" email message, you can always use Earthlink's web-based email feature on your PC.

I do have them safe on my PC so the concern was why it was disappearing from my ipad. I called Earthlink support and we went over the settings and I don't know how the one setting went to imap from pop but once I got that saved to pop like the others, it is OK. Thank you all for your suggestions.
