Also, if you show "Keyboard Viewer" does that show the Delete key bing pressed?
To turn on Keyboard Viewer got System Preferences>Keyboard>Keyboard and check Show Keyboard...... Then click on the keyboard icon in menu bar and select Show Keyboard VIewer.
Does an external KB work OK?
This is the Mac Pro desktop forum. I requested your post be moved to the MacBook Pro laptop forum or other appropriate forum.

Sep 11, 2016 1:48 PM in response to Astridfromokby BobTheFisherman,What exactly are you trying to delete? You mentioned Chrome. You can't delete text in a web page unless the text is in an editable form field. Does the delete key work in TextEdit or other text editing apps?

Sep 11, 2016 5:01 PM in response to BobTheFishermanby Astridfromok,I phrased that poorly. It doesn't work on text I have written in, say, Facebook. I ahappened to be using Chrome at the time. The delete key doesn't work in Text Edit either.

- If it is repairable reinstall the OSX

- If you do not have a backup use disk utility to restore the internal disk to an external disk so you can try to recover data.
Then format the startup disk and do a fresh install of OSX
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

I suspect a hardware problem with your KB. YO can try the actions in my previous reply
