Q: El Capitan - scheduled startup won't turn off

I'm running El Capitan on my desktop mac, and I've been having an extremely obnoxious problem. I inherited this computer from my office, and my boss had set up the automatic schedule under the Energy Savings settings to start up the computer every weekday at 7 AM. I don't want it to do this anymore. I've un-checked this settings I don't know how many times, I've changed the time to later in the day, I've deleted the autowake.plist file and restarted ... no matter what I do, the schedule keeps getting changed back to auto startup every weekday at 7 AM.

I believe it might have been using this schedule when I first got it and I upgraded it from the older OS to El Capitan. Might it have been something to do with doing this upgrade while that schedule was turned on, somehow cementing it into place?

Anybody else have this issue? Any solution? I'd prefer not to have to reinstall my OS but if that's what needs to happen...

    Hello darkcrystal-ws,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It's my understanding you've been unable to stop your iMac from automatically starting up. I can see how this would be concerning, especially since if it's occurring after adjusting the settings and updating. I am happy to help.

It sounds like you've done a great job trying to fix this on your own. At this point, I recommend testing this issue in another user. In some cases specific users settings or files can impact the preferences. Please the link below for assistance on how to test in another user account and additional steps depending on your results.

    Okay, so the latest:

For some reason, my computer hasn't done the auto startup the last two days. However, in the preference settings, the schedule is still in place, for both my main admin user account and a test account. So now I'm not sure what's going on. I'm going to wait a few more days leaving all as is and seeing if it has stopped starting up each morning.

I shall return with future updates.
