Q: Recover Lost Emails

A few weeks ago i had to upgrade my Macbook Pro from Snow Leopard to El Capitan. I Made a Backup with Time Maschine on my ext. Harddrive before I did so. Due to some problems with my email account after the upgrade I lost 90% of the mails in my Apple Mail and can't even retrive them from the server of the email provider because of the settings i had used in my apple mail ("delete from server after xx days"- stupid I know, not gonna happen again). I hoped I could get them back by entering the time maschine and export all the mails from apple mail and then import them. But when I tried that, I can't open the Mail on the Back up. It has the big grey cross on top of it, which unsupported applications do have.

Is there any way to recover those emails ? Maybe by opening the backup with another Macbook running on an older System like Maverick?

I'd be glad for tipps

Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select LibraryMail. Enter Time Machine and restore that folder. Log out/in, open Mail, and see if your e-mails are there. If that doesn't work, restore the folder to your Desktop, and then Mail/File/Import mailboxes.
