Q: Keyboard stutter

I have an iMac 27in., late 2013 running OS10.11.6. Several months ago Istarted to encounter a keyboard stutter. It would occur when coming out of sleep. Any key you hit would repeat nine times. I could shut off the keyboard (Apple bluetooth) and all would be OK. The problem got progressively more frequent. After hours of consultations with Apple Care and a new keyboard the problem continued. All of the regular resets were tried and a separate partition with a new copy of the OS did not uncover any issues. Several trips to he local Apple repair location finally identified the source of the problem as the mouse (Apple bluetooth). Apple replaced the mouse and the problem continued. Apple was convinced that it was a bluetooth hardware issue and the local repair location said that it had to be software. I have moved the computer to a different room with nothing connected to eliminate any external influences with no effect. I decided to live with the trackpad (Apple bluetooth) and hope that whatever was dying would do so before the warranty expired. I would really like to be able to use the mouse for some tasks and wondered if anyone has any suggestions.

If your computer and its peripherals are still under AppleCare, request

this issue be escalated to resolve the hardware issues before its expiry.

Be sure to backup all your works to an off-computer archive, or two.

Hopefully you can get the attention of a supervisor...

    Good luck!

I seem to have the same problem but only since upgrading to El Capitan - a coincidence???

The Mac screen asks me to sign in but the letters either appear very slowly or the first letter keeps repeating itself.

Presently I am having to restart the Mac from the main on / off button and hoping Apple will find a solution & resolve with an update.

I experience this problem on rare occasions and have always thought it was Bluetooth related. I thought I'd found the solution in trashing the Bluetooth.plist and re-booting. The 'fix' seemed to last for a couple of months but the problem sporadically returned .

I'm using a MagicMouse, Trackpad and BT Keyboard. For now, I'm stuck with doing the occasional re-boot to get around the problem.

FWIW, it only happens on my late 2014 5k 27" iMac. My late '09 27" iMac doesn't have the problem.
