Q: iCloud Storage

The iCloud FAQ says that all actions are duplicated across all devices with iCloud. My question is: what's the point of having, say, 200GB in addition to the capacity on a device (an iPhone in this case) if deleted files on my phone will automatically delete in my iCloud? The FAQ isn't very good in helping out with this concern. I use my phone as my primary camera but the files are quickly eating up my gigs. I've noticed that deleting any from my phone deletes them from my iCloud as well - which defeats the purpose of paying a fee each month for extra storage via the iCloud. I'm hoping one of you good folks can assist. Thanks.

iCloud storage is a syncing/mirroring service when it comes to ones photos/videos, i.e. upload them to iCloud, and it easily syncs across all your devices, available whenever, though delete them from one device and it deletes across all devices.  iCloud isn't a traditional cloud based, hard drive in the sky service.

If you're looking for a traditional cloud based service, then consider using third party applications such as Flickr, Dropbox, and Google Photos.

The only way to preserve space on your iPhone would be to enable 'Optimize iPhone Storage'.
