Q: Export

I want to export a short clip to QuickTime. I click Share and QuickTime is not an option. And, from experimenting with the other options, it appears that what I want to be done can't be done. iMovie will only share the entire project, not one part of it. Where am I going wrong? iMovie will only share a complete project or a clip form the event pane.  If you want to share part of project, select that part and copy it into a new project.

Can you enlarge on what you are trying to accomplish?  By Quicktime I understand you want  a .mov file rather than an .mp4?  You could convert from one to the other using Handbrake.

So iMovie 10 will not export to .mov? That is shocking. I'm wanted .mov because I'm familiar with it and know that Toast will burn a DVD from it. In the meanwhile, a short segment of the project needs white balance adjustment. I put the playhead on the segment, which is Command-B separated from the rest of the project, and it appeared in the viewer and made the adjustment. The adjustment does not show up in the timeline, nor does playing the segment in the timeline reflect the adjustment. Another helper in this forum wrote that a white balance adjustment can be seen in the viewer, not in the timeline, but will show in the exported version. IOW, I want replicate the adjusted clip outside iMovie and see what it looks like. I tried to copy the adjusted clip to the desktop. No go. Tried to copy it to a new project. I'm working on that; Apple's Help is, as usual, about useless. I'll keep working on it. Thank you for your help.

Export to file and select  best quality. That will give you a proves encoded .mov file. Instead of command B you can select a range in your clip by placing the skimmer where you want the selection to start and press i then go to the desired end point and press o. This will select a range in your clip which you can apply white balance. See if this works to see the applied balance in the viewer.

On a different thread dealing only with white balance, being helped by Léone, I noted that I had done that. The new balance shows in the viewer but is reflected neither in the timeline thumbnails nor when I play the timeline with the player head. Will it appear in the final product? I can find no way to check without exporting the entire project. Is there no way to reflect the change in the timeline?

All editing changes should appear in the viewer when you play in the timeline.  Changes are not visible in the timeline thumbnails.  To check how a part of the movie will appear when exported copy and paste the part of interest into a new project and share that, as I suggested in an earlier post.
