How can I unlock my ssd drive to make a partition?

My Imac unexpectedly went into recovery mode. I am unable to reinstall OS X because it says my SSD is locked. I am also unable to create a partition(its greyed out) in the disk utility. I can see that all my files are still in tact when I try to create an image of the ssd but am unable to save it onto an external Hard Drive. Please help I'm currently at a lost and trying to recover my computer without deleting anything.

iMac, OS X El Capitan (10.11.1)

Greetings Anthemosity,

I see that you iMac has went into recovery mode and you are unable to reinstall OS X because it says your SSD is locked. You are also unable to create a partition in Disk Utility because it is grayed out. I can imagine that you're ready to get this issue resolved. I want to help you enjoy your iMac again.

Please follow these steps in recovery:

1. Select the Disk Utility app.

2. Choose the locked drive.

3. Go to File > Unlock (drive name).

4. Enter password when prompted.

Once you have unlocked the drive, try to reinstall again, and see if you get the same result.

Best Regards.
