Q: Ipod synced but does not see synced

Have a iPod Classic (MC297LL) with operating system 2.0.4 (current) which is attached to an MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013) operating on OS X 10.10.5 (current) running iTunes 12.4.3.1 (current).

We can sync the songs and podcasts to the Ipod and they appear in the Ipod's music and podcasts as long as you are looking into those directories (or whatever you call them) through the iTunes app. As soon as the iPod is disconnected from the MacBook the menu system in the iPod reports there is no music or podcasts on the device.

I can play, through iTunes on the MacBook, a song on the attached iPod. If I - not properly - disconnect the iPod during the song the song ends. So the music is on the iPod it just will not show up in the iPod OS.

I can then reattach the iPod to iTunes and it shows the songs are there and can play a song found in the iPod through the iTunes app.

Things tried:

Shutting down and hard rebooting the iPod. - Didn't work.

Erasing and reformatting the iPod using Disk Repair. - Didn't work.

Deauthorizing and Reauthorizing the computer in iTunes. Didn't work.

I have clicked tried manually managing the songs onto the iPod as well as syncing entire libraries. Didn't work.

One thing which might be related is every time after a sync and after it's been disconnected from MacBook/iTunes correctly the iPod reboots. Don't have another iPod to test if this in normal. But anycase after it's rebooted and the iPod software shows there are no songs it can be reattached to the MacBook/iTunes and the song(s) can again be seen to be on the iPod and and can be played through the connection.
