Q: Airport Extreme and third party VPN

I am interested to know whether or not I could download a third-party VPN provider like NordVPN and ExpressVPN on my Macbook Pro and use with my Airport Extreme successfully.

I use my Macbook for work and I cannot access certain materials and emails without using a VPN.

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.3)

The VPN provider is able to use a few different VPN types.. I have tested a Mac via airport router, using OpenVPN client on a local service and it was fine.

eg https://www.expressvpn.com/support/vpn-setup/manual-config-for-mac-os-x-with-tun nelblick-openvpn/

Not all VPN types will work but if the service offers OpenVPN that offers best security and is usually faster than other types..

The vpn with most issues is IPSEC and you can run into issues due to security set of the Airport Routers..

But as long as you are using passthrough vpn I doubt you will have any issues.
