Q: Run out of memory

Hi.

I am having an issue with my Macbook Air (OS X Yosemite) whereby my memory is stating that it is full yet I cannot find the items that it is telling me about, I apparently have 163.5GB of movies, yet I have no movies on my Mac as when I purchase them I immediately put them on my portable hard drive.

I have emptied the recycle bin, check my iPhoto and been through every file I can think of and still cannot see where all this memory has gone.

Any recommendations on what I can do?

MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Late 2013)

One possibility is that the number shown for the movies is wrong. If so, re-indexing may correct that: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201716

The following may help with the startup disk being full:

Hi,

I tried your suggestion and it freed up some space, but I now have 63.9GB of 'other' in memory and I've tried a few suggestions to no avail, I just simply cannot find the files that are taking up all that space.

The following may help regarding "Other" -- note that it includes all of your documents and everything else that isn't a photo, video, audio, app or backup.
