If I delete an album does it delete photos from camera roll

I got my iPhone 5s in January 2015 and at some point I deleted the Instagram album in Photos just to free up some space; I figured I didn't need the album since all of the pictures were already in my Camera Roll. But I was just going through all my pictures and deleting the ones I really didn't need since all of my photos are uploaded to my Dropbox as backup and noticed that all of the Instagram photos from January 2015 to mid-September 2016 are all missing! Does anyone have any idea if deleting that album would have deleted the photos from my Camera Roll permanently? I also could have sworn they were there before the recent update; I'd be pretty annoyed if I have to go back and re-save everything in order because then it doesn't keep the original date/location, just the info for the day you saved it (I already had to do this once when I decided I wanted all my previous photos from my old phone but in chronological order so I had to delete everything in my new phone and re-save from Dropbox, I'm just OCD like that lol)!

iPhone 5s, iOS 9.3.5

Photos in albums are no duplicates of your Camera Roll photos. The albums are just showing you the same photos as your Camera Roll, grouped differently for easy access.

If you delete a photo you are seeing in an album, it will be removed from all other albums and deleted from the library and the Camera Roll as well.

If you delete an album, but do not select photos in the album, the photos will stay and just the album will be gone.

Did you empty the "Recently Deleted Album"? If not, try to recover your photos from there.

To delete only an album without deleting the photos select the album in the Album list and tap the red delete button. ➖
