Apple Store app vs Apple website

I Have a quick question about the Apple Store app and the apple website. Hopefully someone here can shed some light as I find there is an important difference between the two and I can't fathom why. I'm of British origin but I currently live in China. In order to get all the services I want, I choose to keep my UK Apple ID as opposed to getting a Chinese one.

Now when it comes to making new purchases I find that I am able to use Union Pay (think Chinese visa) on the Apple website as well as Alipay (Chinese PayPal) and Wechat (Chinese Whatsapp). However on the Apple Store app I'm limited to Visa and MasterCard. Could anyone please explain his discrepancy to me?

THanks for your time.

Yeah, my Apple Store app is set to China. Which is what I want. But it's limited in payment options to its website sibling.

The above image is the Apple Store app set to Chinese store. I can only use visa and MasterCard.

This image is taken from the Apple Store website (Chinese version). It supports many more payment options.

Im just wondering why the huge discrepancy. Can't they add these payment options to the Apple Store app? For convenience sake.
