Q: Searching For Network after Reboot

I have an iPhone 5C on EE, running the latest ios firmware. Friday night it ran out of charge and when I turned the phone back on, it said 'searching' in the top left corner. In settings it would not list carrier or the network name.

I tried rebooting the phone, cycling airplane mode, checked date setting, reset network settings, all per these forums to no avail. The only thing that would work would be to completely erase all content and settings. However, the next time the phone restarted it happened again.

I've tried the sim card in a different phone and worked no problem and have tried a different sim card in the iPhone and it has the same issue.

I'm guessing this means its a hardware issue however the phone is no longer under warranty and wondered if there was a way for it to be repaired or if there is anything I can do (other than never letting the phone turn off) to stop this from happening?

TIA.

iPhone 5c, iOS 9.3.5
