Q: os x active directory integration issues

Hi,

I don't normally post in support forums as I like to search out a solution but we have an issue that's a bit of a show stopper and I cant seem to find a fix.

I am an IT technician at a college. We already have two mac suites that our bound to our active directory but use the local disk as a home folder because the students use them for video editing, this gets a bit messy in terms of file management. For our third mac suite in the art department we have bound the macs to active directory but we are using the home folders from the network accounts.

This seems to work great in terms of file access but we have noticed that the macs slow down to a halt every few minutes for about a minute. We have done some research into this and come to the conclusion that its an issue with OS X generating SQLITE databases on the network home folders, iCloud seems to be the main culprit for this.

Surely OS X has a workaround for network bound machines?

Here is an example error from the console:

Error: execSQLStatement:onConnection:toCompletionWithRetry - SQL=BEGIN IMMEDIATE;, error-code=10, error-message=disk I/O error

Another issue is that when OS X initially logs a student on it generate its default folders e.g. Home, Library, Pictures... it corrupts the permissions on the network home folder so we have to take ownership of the folder again. This one isnt a show stopper but it is very frustrating.

We use El Capitan.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Tom
