Q: touch id and apple pay - issue or normal behavior ?

I am on iOS 10.0.1 with an iPhone 6:

while the screen is unlocked, when I bring the phone near a terminal (in a store which accepts apple pay or contact-less payments), payment is completed -- WITHOUT requiring me to authenticate via touch id.

i first noticed this yesterday at a retailer. i used apple pay again today just to test it to see if it happens again - and it did.

is this normal behavior for apple wallet and apple pay ? when the screen is unlocked with touch id - i DO NOT need to re-authenticate for a contact-less payment ?

if this is not normal, i will open a new case with apple support ....

iPhone 6, null

tried again with the phone screen locked/off -- it requires touch id authentication.

i would guess that the phone assumes -- if the screen is unlocked -- that the owner is holding the phone when it's placed over a terminal to pay for something and that the owner intends to make a purchase.

apple support advised that i do a restore of my phone to 10.0.1 via itunes. then i would setup apple wallet again as well as touch id again.

after that i would try to reproduce paying with apple pay without authenticating while the screen is on.

can anyone else give their experiences and feedback ?
