Q: ..system out of application memory

Can anyone suggest anything? Computer slowed right down and demanded force quit apps, with the message: Your system is out of application memory.

As suggested from another post, I ran an EtreCheck and the report is quoted below. I deleted some adware. Should I be looking into this further?

EtreCheck version: 3.0.3 (307)

I suggest you run Etrecheck again after deleting adware, to see if it ALL successfully removed, and then see if the system works without problems.

Thank you for your interest and help, I restarted and ran it again. Performance has changed from "poor" to "excellent", which is always a good thing. Only one red comment about one out of date item. It is through this forum that I learned of EtreCheck and I'm glad. Now, ....... how much is that extra memory?

    Thanks again

Do you still see an "out of application memory" after the adware cleanup?

I am not arguing against adding more RAM (actually, as the saying goes, "there is no such thing as too much RAM" :-)), just interested to know; 8GB is not too shabby.

Two well regarded vendors for RAM that I am many people in these fora have used are OWC and Crucial.

    Hello 61319tele,

Maybe run EtreCheck again in a couple of days to make sure it was the adware causing the memory problems. Your kernel_task was 4.8 GB. It is difficult to track down exactly what causes that. You do have a "line6" system modification from 2013 that could be contributing. If your kernel_task gets very large (more than 1 GB) like this again, try uninstalling the "line6" software. If you need to do that, make sure to use only the vendor-provided uninstaller or uninstallation instructions. Never use an "app zapper" and never try to delete these hidden files by hand.

Good thinking. The Kernel Extensions on the latest report are not showing anything alarming, so perhaps I'll hold fire on the Line 6 uninstall.

Luis: the out of appli...... message has not been seen after the adware clear up, and the system is working normally

    Hello again 61319tele,

Thanks for following up. It is always a challenge to find out what is causing some of these specific issues that show up on other people's EtreCheck reports.

This has been developing over the last 8 hours. Just now I tried uninstalling Jimbrie and had a severe slowdown, ran EtreCheck - kernel task 4  'n bit GB  and had to forced it to shut down. Started up in safe mode and uninstalled Line 6 stuff, backed up and ran EtreCheck again. Kernel task down to 714Mb.

For the time being! Since last posting I have restarted with a PRAM clear out (old habits form blue&White days). What I forgot to mention on the last posting, I uninstalled Flip4Mac, Jimbrie refuses to uninstall. Things seem normal now and I am running another EtreCheck - all good. What I want to know now is what wisdom can we preserve from this? I believe Etrecheck automatically receives  the info (?) and Apple should know. On the 365th day it went doolally.

    Hello again 61319tele,

There is no connection between EtreCheck and Apple. All that matters is that your machine is running better.
