iPad air ios9.3 mail calendar event using all available memory.

Calendar event is using ALL available memory. I have done a hard restart. The event was initially entered as a single day event, but is repeating itself for every day. I have attempted to delete event, as well as the entire calendar, and the os seems to lock up then does not execute the delete. I can not use this device because of the calendar/mail app hogging all memory.
