    He's joking....

You can get an almost free 7+ by bringing in your 6 or 6s phone to a carrier.

That's what I am doing with my son's phone - we are going to wait in line at T Mobile on the 16th and with his non damaged iPhone 6, he is getting an iPhone 7 32gb for free with a $0 24 month contract which we don't mind because we love T Mobile!

I on the other hand, later that day, I have a reservation for a black 7 at the Apple store so our Friday will be a long day!

Not actually "free," since you're paying for the new iPhone over the course of the 24-month contract.    The value of old iPhone (still quite valuable in your case) only covers the upfront cost of new iPhone.  T-Mobile will sell it (your old but still recent iPhone) to a refurbisher and make an overall profit on transaction.

If there's an obligation for a "lease" or "contract," it's not "free."  It's like buying a car with a loan to the dealer.  You are paying the full price (and most likely more), over the course of monthly obligation period.

In the case of linked deal, it's a "lease" which means you have to pay the monthly fee for the obligation period AND return the iPhone (in good condition) at the end of the period.  You don't even own the phone at the end.  That's almost the opposite of a "free" iPhone...

T Mobile is free after 24 months of paying nothing.

Yes I trade in my 2 year old iPhone 6 worth $300.

Since I love their global service, I intend on keeping my service with T Mobile anyway.

Why not end up with a phone you keep at the end of 24 months while you are paying them the normal monthly service and zero dollars monthly for 24 months?

As for using the Apple Store's Iphone Upgrade Program, paying monthly $37 at 0% is a no brainer plus it has AppleCare+ which is big peace of mind for an angler like myself who is deathly afraid of getting my current iPhone wet....
