Q: Making Compound Clips from the event browser-problem

I take long (1hour or so) video on a go pro and import it into FCP to edit; my go pro splits the 1 hour long video into several (usually 4) distinct clips, so after getting them into FCP I have to group them together into a single file again, which I do using compound clips.  The quickest way to do that, I think, is by selecting the clips in the event browser, right clicking, and creating a compound clip; however for some reason when I do that one or more of the clips in the compound clip are usually trimmed down a lot, so I have to open the compound clip in the timeline and untrim the affected clips so they are their full length.  Does anyone know why this might be happening and how to prevent it?  I can work around it but is is annoying to have to do so.

Don't know why this would happen. Out of curiosity try making an empty compound clip, opening it, and appending in the content. Does the same thing happen?

I could not reproduce that. Did you make sure that the selection included the clips in full before making the compound clips?

All I am doing is highlighting the names of the 4 or 5 clips that I want in the event browser, I am not working with the preview clips, so I don't think there is an issue of only picking part of a clip.  I am literally command clicking on each file name in the file list that I want, then right clicking and choosing create compound clip; it always includes all the highlighted clips, which are always, time sequence wise, non overlapping and sequential, but for some weird reason some of them get trimmed down.

I am pretty sure that would work fine; I guess I am just interested in why the fasted way is not working properly.

If there are selections in the clips, that is what will go into the compound clip.

As in this example, I selected clips #27 and #28 on the list, but there is a range selected in clip #28 - that range goes into the compound clip, and not the whole clip #28. That is how the application works (and, I might add, with good reason).

So make sure you either have no selection (option-X) or the whole clip is selected (X).

That is probably what is happening, I sometimes take out portions from the clips before creating the compound clip, thanks!
