Q: "Missing Proxy" Error When I Edit Clip

Hey all,

Been stuck on this issue for about three days now and I'm at a loss why this is happening.

The issue at hand is I have a video file that imports fine. I can scrub in the browser and timeline and the video playback works just fine. Whenever I edit said video(resizing/clipping) it immediately loses the proxy.

The video files are on an external HDD. I needed to use Proxy media in order for them to import because other wise I couldn't even scrub in the browser; they wouldn't play back at all.

This is kind of hard to type out so I recorded a quick(14s) video to demonstrate my issue.

Thanks in advance for all help received.

What are the specs for that clip (format, frame size, frate rate)?

What do you see in the Inspector for that clip? In particular, at the bottom for "media representations" is the proxy in green or red?

Does the clip play correctly in the browser?

    File Type: MOV
    Size: 1920x1080

    Codecs: H.264, Linear PCM

    FPS: 24

Regarding the Media Representations, Original, Optimized(just tried this to fix it, didn't work) and Proxy are all Green.

The clip plays fine in the browser. It plays in the Timeline as well until you modify it.

How is your media organized? Are you using external media or managed media? Where are the original files? Where are the proxy files? What drive? How is it connected? How is it formatted? How did you create the proxies?

All the media is on an external hard drive via USB. They are well organized as I have one event for each folder(see video top left for event structure.) The library for the project is stored on the same HDD. Proxies were made when files were imported.

SO you're using external media and you have the proxy files in the external folders that correspond to the events. Is all that correct? How is the drive formatted?

Could you explain "until you modify it"?

The drive was given to me by my teacher to work on. He does video work all the time so the drive format isn't an issue since it worked on his computer before he gave it to me.

In the video around 5 seconds I resized the clip causing it to lose the Proxy connection. So any change to that clip in the Timeline makes it lose sync.
