My mac pro (mid 2012) recently froze up. I did a hard reboot, and the system will only come up as a guest user. I thought I knew my admin name, full first & last name. I do know the password. But, it will not accept the name. Is there a way to find the admin name?

Easy. Go to the Apple menu->System Preferences->Users&Groups.
The names of the users appear on the left
Open terminal and type whoami it will give the admin name .
From the command line, you can list all users with admin privileges, copy and paste:
dscacheutil -q group -a name adminI don't have the admin name, so it will not show the other users.
I gave it try, and it did show the user name. But, it didn't work.

Did you actually try?!!!
Log in as guest (or any other account); System Preferences->Users&Groups shows the names of all the accounts.
How can I retrieve an admin user name?
