2. I think that it is related to this (after recovering a damaged booting El Capitan disk and restoring from backup):
I cannot mount main Mac disk or user home folder in Desktop of Mac OS X 10.6.8 Server (Snow Leopard) on VMware Fusion 8.1.1 on Mac OS X 10.11 10.11.6 (15G1004) El Capitan. Mac sharing and VMware Fusion Sharing are both active. When double clicking such aliases on Snow Leopard Server Desktop, it says:

Connection Failed
The server… may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again.

The alias… can’t be opened because the original item can’t be found.
