Sep 12, 2016 3:37 PM in response to apascby LaPastenague,El Capo increased security such that it is difficult to backups over the network to another Mac. I recently tested this and was disappointed at how unreliable it has become.
I do not see any easy way to fix it. So I recommend you bypass the problem.
eg. Buy a Time Capsule. Or a more expensive but more reliable solution.. a Synology NAS.
Or go the cheaper route and buy a second USB drive and backups locally. Time Machine is less and less reliable and using it with local drive.. plugged directly into the computer simply works a lot better than any other method.
A solution I have not tried is buying OS X server and loading that onto one computer. This has a lot of extra functionality for using a central computer as TM target. The server extension is cheap enough. However on balance I went for synology.
