Q: Can I upgrade to 16 gb ram on older MBP?

I have a mbp 15 in late 2008 model and have upgraded to 8 gb ram but I was wondering if I could upgrade the ram to 16 or at least 10-12 gb ram? My computer is is great condition but I do photography and use lightroom/photoshop and was wondering if there was a way to have more ram? Or would it be better to invest in a new mbp customized?

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

To find out visit OWC to determine how much RAM your model will support. They are also an excellent source for purchasing memory.

My information shows:
Maximum Memory 8.0 GB (Actual) 4.0 GB (Apple)
Memory Slots 2 - 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
