el capitan slow for mail application

Since installing el capitan on my macbook pro (Mid-2010) my mail is running slow.

Color wheel often appears.

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6), Mid 2010

If the above doesn't work, try re-indexing the mailboxes. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.

Reindex messages For El Capitan, try looking in V3.
