Q: Inateck USB 3.0 HD Dock issues - iMac Retina - 27" (late 2015)

Whenever I dock standard SATA 3/6 drives, they operate at USB 2.0 speeds.

I have two WD Caviar drives, one Blue (00Z8A0), one Green (00D6B1).

Both are formatted correctly.

What is going wrong?

The Inateck dock is model #: FD2002.Screen Shot 2016-09-09 at 10.09.03 PM.pngScreen Shot 2016-09-09 at 10.08.23 PM.pngScreen Shot 2016-09-09 at 8.54.32 PM.jpg

If I were you, I would be asking Inatech, they claim the device uses USB 3.0. Perhaps you aren't using a USB 3 cable, if you are using an older USB 2.0 cable then that would be a simple "why."

BTW, if you want the fastest speed then you should get a Thunderbolt enclosure and connecting the enclosure via a Thunderbolt cable.

    "Hi,

Thanks for your email. Sorry for the trouble that has caused to you.

FYI, The UASP Transfer Protocol only can accelerate read and write speed of SSD hard disk. And the actual transmission speed is limited by the setting of the device connected. Be sure I just want to solve your issue, and we cherish your experience with us. Anything will make you feel better, don't hesitate to tell me.

    Have a nice day.

    Regards,

    Sunny"

    Hi,

    "Thanks for your feedback.

Just as I said in my previous email.  It works with a standard SATA drive. But the product is enhanced with UASP, which helps accelerate read and write speeds for SSD, but not so much faster rate for HDD. Taking usage conditions into consideration, such as different motherboards and hard drives, the actual transfer speed will depend on the specific usage environment. For example, transfer rate of a single 2G file will be faster than a 2G folder included 1000 files.

I'd say sometimes it's really complicated when comes to the speed issue: But we appreciate your feedback and will improve the products constantly. Now we're more than happy to refund a half for you. Anything will make you feel better, don't hesitate to tell me. Many thanks for your kindness.

Hope you have a nice day.

    Regards,

    Sunny"

Neither of his replies make much sense to me. I'm using the included USB 3.0 cable.

Return the thing and get a Thunderbolt enclosure. If you don't know of any OWC ( www.macsales.com )  sell quite a few kinds and can help steer you to one that fits your needs.

    Good luck !
