Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It's my understanding the Mail app has been performing slowly since updating. I don't go a day without using my Mail, so I surely understand the importance of being able to access messages in a timely manner. I am happy to help.
If you haven't already, I recommend force quitting the Mail app. Use the steps below if needed.- Choose Force Quit from the Apple menu, or press Command-Option-Esc.
This is similar to pressing Control-Alt-Delete on a PC. - Select the unresponsive app in the Force Quit window, then click Force Quit.
Force an app to close on your Mac
If the issue persists please try testing this issue in safe mode. Starting in safe mode allows your Mac to run certain checks, delete cache, and prevent Startup Items from automatically launching. Follow these steps to start up in safe mode.- Start or restart your Mac.
- Immediately after you hear the startup sound, press and hold the Shift key.
- Release the Shift key when you see the Apple logo appear on the screen.
After the Apple logo appears, it might take longer than usual to reach the login screen or your desktop. This is because your Mac performs a directory check of your startup disk as part of safe mode.
To leave safe mode, restart your computer without pressing any keys during startup.
Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up
If the issue continues please provide more details about your Mail set up. Do you have multiple accounts? If so, does this occur with each account?
Have an amazing day! - Choose Force Quit from the Apple menu, or press Command-Option-Esc.
