Sep 13, 2016 1:14 AM in response to tanyazimmby dominic23,It is better to have two backups ready.
1. Use Carbon Copy Cloner backup software and an external HD to create a bootable backup.
Carbon Copy Cloner costs about 40 dollars.
2. Use built-in Time Machine application to backup or restore your Mac.
Buy an external HD with three times the storage capacity compared to the internal SSD.

Sep 13, 2016 4:18 AM in response to tanyazimmby dwb,dominic23 suggestion is basically what I do except I add one more layer of protection by cycling two TM backup drives between work and home. In other words, Friday I take a backup drive to work and leave it there all week. When I go home I take the one that had been there the previous week and use it to back up for a week. This way if disaster strikes at home I still have a backup off-site that’s no more than a week old.
I also use iCloud as a repository for my photos.
