Disk Utility error 3

Hi guys,

Trying to make a .iso image from a disc.

I go to Disk Utility and select the drive

Then I click File > New Image > Image From...

The process starts fine
Gets past "reading whole disk"

Then says "operation failed"

Under "details" it says "operation failed with status 5" but also says com.apple.diskutility error 3
Tried Googling and no consistent info about this?

HI, any solution or comment about this topic?

same happened to me, trying to create an AKAI CD-ROM image (propietary format unmountable by OS X) with Disk Utility OS X El Capitan.

Luckily I had an old HD with OSX Mountain Lion and works fine creating the dmg images (In Mountain Lion the Disk Utility app displays below the DVD a grey "disk9s0" that I use as target)

Looks like this is a problem with the new disk utility in El Capitan (I don't know about Sierra).

The thing is I don't want to be changing my HD every time I need this kind of disk image, Is more convenient to work everything in El Capitan.

Any suggestions would be welcome
