Finder in "list" view not working

Hi there!

I have a weird problem with Finder in my Mac. I have a MacBook Pro (around 3 years old) with OSX version 10.9.5 installed. Everything was working fine with my Mac, I went on vacation at the beginning of August and, when I came back and I turned on my Mac, I found the following problem:

  • When I tried to open a new Finder window, the "central part" of the window (in which the folders and archives are supposed to be shown) was empty: moreover, it "showed" whatever it was at the background of the Finder window (say, my desktop background image, or a webpage opened in the Firefox, etc.).
  • I could click and change the folders appearing under my "Favorites", at the left part of the window, and I could also click the buttons in the upper part of the window, but I couldn't see anything "inside" a folder when I clicked one (no archives, no folders...).
  • I discovered that Finder is still working if I select the first viewing option; that is, the one that shows the content of a folder as "big icons" placed in rows and columns. The window shows nothing (it is somehow "freezed") if I try to view the contents of a folder in "list", and if I try any of the other two options, Finder freezes (the cursor turns into the spinning, colored wheel) and eventually crashes.
  • I've always used the "list" view in my Mac, and I've never had any kind of problem with it. However, since a month ago or so, I can only use the "icon" view, as any of the other three options either shows nothing or crashes.

What I've (in vain) tried in order to solve this (none of them have solved the issue, though):

  • Restarting finder from the "Force Quit" process.
  • Deleting the "apple.finder.plist" file from "~/Library/Preferences/"
  • Installing the last security and software updates available at the Apple Store.

I've seen a lot of posts where people complain about having problems with Finder, but none of them seem to be related with what I'm experiencing and, so far, none of the solutions given have worked for me.

Anyone has any clue about what I should or could try in order to solve this?

Thanks in advance for your time and effort! 🙂
