Q: itunes says to download but the files are on the HDD...

Somehow I ended up with a bunch of duplicate TV episodes.

The 2 duplicated episodes behaves differently when I try to delete them.

When I go to delete the first episode says "are you sure you want to delete the TV episode....". If I do then it says "do you want to delete or keep the file". If I delete this file then the actual file is gone off the hard drive If I do not delete the file then the second entry does not see this file.

When I go to delete the second episode says "do you want to to hide this TV program". I can hide the program and this duplicate disappears. But this in not tidy in my OCD world

If I delete the first entry, and it's file, the entry disappears and I am left with a single entry but I have to re-download it.

I can delete the first entry but not delete its file and the first entry disappears, but the second entry left in itunes does not see the file on the HDD and I still need to re-download the episode to watch it.

Is there a way to not hide anything and relink the episodes in itunes to the files on the HDD?

I wish I could explain myself better, sorry. I hope this is clear enough ....

WIndows PC, Windows 10, itunes 12

Try signing out of the iTunes Store and then sign in again.

Thanks tt2, but no luck I'm afraid appreciate your helpfulness though

Please see screen shot below for a clearer picture of my problem. The HDD files listed are associated with the non-cloud entries.

Looks like I will have to delete the library where there are duplicates and re-download all the episodes.

Are you using iTunes Match or Apple Music? Ah, we're talking TV Shows. Typically signing out of the store and back in again resolves any mismatches between your iTunes in the Cloud purchase history and what you've already downloaded. It may help to close iTunes after signing out, then reopen to sign in again. If that still doesn't work it may be that the content has been amended slightly in the store. You could hide the purchases from history, but that would then prevent them showing on say an Apple TV or other device that can access your cloud purchases. Using iTunes Match I found the only reliable solution was to delete, unhide and redownload, which was a drag. Perhaps the same goes for TV Shows.

    Thanks tt2...

I tried all those things without success. I discovered that dragging a file or folder into itunes displays a "link" box but it did not link the files and instead recreated all the duplicates again! You may be correct in your earlier supposition that the online versions are somehow different from the previously downloaded files..?

Never mind it seems this is just one of those things. I'll redownload the culprits as I draw to the end of my data month. No harm no foul. I do like it when these issues find a solution though

    Cheers.
