ReSound LiNX2 961 - To Stream or Not...?

I am getting my new (first time) LiNX2 961 hearing aids next week, and doing my homework. Those of you with simple age-related hearing loss (moderate loss at progressively higher frequencies) can help me wrap my head around a basic streaming question. When, if ever, would I want to stream?

For example my wife and I love action movies, but when the TV volume is lower I keep asking her what someone said. Is that solved by setting up a Unite TV Stream 2 as a fix for having to raise the volume to hear conversations and then lower the volume for the loud action scenes, up/down/up/down? Or will my hearing aids fix that without needing to stream?

The context of the question includes where I occasionally wear headphones or ear buds to listen to streamed audio without disturbing others nearby, such as watching a Netflix movie while my wife is reading. So it seemed that I might only want to stream for that purpose, rather than to remedy any age-related hearing loss. I am not sure streaming serves any other purpose.

How do the rest of you find streaming useful or important?

I have the TV streamer that ReSound sells, and it works extremely well. The sound quality is like putting on a very expensive pair of studio headphones... voices are crystal clear, the sound track is rich and audible, and you get that "I'm hearing this in the middle of my head" sensation. On my TV setup, the "room" volume-level of the TV speakers is still controlled by the remote, while the volume of the ReSound TV thing is controlled on my iPhone. So, your spouse can set his or her own comfort level (loud, soft, mute, whatever) and it's not related to the volume that you're hearing in your HA's. And the same goes for the HA sound level: you can mute your HA's and it doesn't affect anybody else's ability to hear the TV.

Now, on your iPhone, you DO have to switch from the "All-Around" setting to the "TV-mini mic" setting in order to hear the TV thing, but that's just one button so no big deal.

Also, I no longer need subtitles on the TV, which makes me a more popular guy.

Thanks Nonotuck. I've had my aids for 2 weeks now, and the tv streamer for a few days, and am very happy. Everything worked better than expected.

My audiologist has it set up with left aid button reducing volume a little each two and cycling through three programs with a longer press. The right aid button increases volume a little with each tap and switches to the tv streamer with a longer press. No need to go to the iPhone app at all except to tweak the programs and set favorites.

HI archaid. They have done a thorough job on the user guides and YouTube videos. My best guess is that the only devices that work with their aids are what is explicit in their docs, or they would have told you how to connect other devices. But if I'm wrong and you get something else working, let us know.

PS. If you are fortunate enough to get your aids from the VA for free they also provide the tv streamer and other connectivity devices for free, so no need to mess with non-standard connections.
