Can I update to iOS 10 using a Mac with Mountain Lion OS (10.8.5)?
Can someone tell me if I can sync my iPhone 6 with iTunes using a Mac with Mountain Lion (10.8.5)?

This is what Apple is listing for the iPhone 7 which will be running iOS 10.

Syncing with iTunes on a Mac or PC requires:
- Mac: OS X v10.9 or later
- PC: Windows 7 or later
- iTunes 12.5 or later (free download from www.itunes.com/download)
My daughter is running Lion on her MacBook Pro and has been syncing her iOS devices running iOS 9.3.5. The requirements for iOS 9 call for Mountain Lion 10.8.5. She never updates via iTunes - always over WiFi - and I think that is how she got away with it. I don't know if that will work this time with iOS 10.
She can sync her iPhone with iTunes when she connects it through her Mac or iTunes doesn't recognize the iPhone?
ITunes recognizes her devices just fine. She can connect her iPhone 6 and her iPad Mini 2 with the cable to her MacBook and sync both devices.
This sort of ironic in a way. She never updates through iTunes. She always updates OTA using WiFi. But she never syncs over WiFi. She always uses the cable to connect.
I do exactly the same thing! Update iPhone in OTA and use the cable with iTunes for backup, but I don't know for sure if my Mac will sync with my iPhone using iOS 10, that's the doubt...
I understand. My daughter will be in the same boat. Just because it has been working is no guarantee that it will continue.
If she can't sync after updating, I will update the OS on her Mac.
Can you tell me, when she'll update her iPhone to iOS 10, if everything is fine on her Mac? Unfortunately I can't update the OS on my Mac.
