Q: iPad no longer charges from Computer after update to iOS 10

Since I've updated to IOS 10 on my iPad Air 2, it will not charge using my computer (An iMac) or when connected to my car.  It worked before I updated.  Any idea how to get this to work again?

... We will find out soon that it's not a glitch but a money maker for Apple.

We MAY find out that it is some combination of both - Apple has every right to design their devices so that they ONLY WORK with their own chargers and cables (or "authorized" ones) - and they also may reasonably require that *their own* stuff be kept up to whatever standard they "raise" it to!

Backwards compatibility can only reasonably go so far back

I am not defending Apple, just explaining how business is practiced

Unless something has drastically changed Apple provides no way to downgrade. It's do-able for about a week after an update until Apple stops signing IOS 9.3.5 but it won't be through iTunes.

Everyone experiencing any problems needs to send detailed feedback at the link below. 100% everyone, it doesn't work if you let the other guy do it.

I thought that the "official" Apple response to danreilly smelled a little fishy!  Link to Post

I have certainly been trying to get "everyone" to Contact Apple Support - may be that I missed a few

I realize that feedback gets there, but it does not have nearly the impact - on Apple or the user - that human contact does.

I also realize that you are picking me to reply as a "choir member", knowing the "congregation" can hear perfectly well what the sermon is.

I have this problem but in a slightly different form. After upgrading to IOS 10 and iTunes 12.5.1, I now find that when I plug my iPad Mini 2 into the computer (MBP 17"), the iPad says 'Not Charging' whereas using the same cable and the same computer before upgrading, the iPad showed a 'charging' icon.

However, the iPad IS charging and still syncs OK.

When I plug the iPad into a USB power supply the icon is normal and shows charging, likewise when using a car charge adapter.

Is this an iTunes or IOS 10 problem?

@RTS48 This is an iOS problem.  My devices that are using iOS 9 will charge on the computer no problem, and the computer can be awake or asleep.  The devices that are upgraded to 10 will not charge unless the computer is awake and being used.  Since the devices in iOS 9 have no problem, even after iTunes has been upgraded, I think it is the iOS.

I realize that it takes time to read through all the posts in this (now) multi-page thread, but you would have found the "answer" to your question described, but not solved.

At bottom, a bug in iOS affecting some iPads that will require a minor update published to fix

We would all be interested in the source for your statements.

Experimentation? Please tell us your method so that it can be confirmed by replicating.

Apple Support? What "level" of specialist? What did they say? (paraphrased is OK)

Yup my Air 2 has the same issue - prior to IOS 10 the Ipad would charge from the PC - since update 'Not Charging'. hav e rebooted as suggested in teh thread but no go. Guess I'll wait to see if the 'gremlins' decide to leave!

I Reverted to iOS 9.x on my air 2 and the charging returned to normal.  So 10 is the problem. .

Actually my iPad Mini 2 charges whether the computer is awake or sleeping. It is just the icon in the top right hand corner that says 'not charging'. When the iPad reaches 100% the icon turns green. Sync is not affected.

There was always the possibility that the "meter" was just working intermittently - charging all the while

Here is an answer from a reliable source "Data Doctors".  So it looks like "Apple" did build this into iOS 10!!  This is the exact cable I use with no problem.

Since my initial post I agree with RTS48 - even though it states 'Not Charging', after leaving plugged in my Air 2 actually is charging from my PC USB - so this looks like some kind of software glitch with IOS 10 display - I am using an Apple original USB lead

same problem here.  I have to use all Apple products now to charge my iOS 10 iPad mini.  I could charge it using non-apple products before.  No more.

also, it no longer has the little lightning bolt near the battery indicates it's charging.  Just have to wait and check and see if battery % rising.
