Q: table of contents, header for page numbers

I'm creating long documents in Pages (Zoning and Subdivision Regulations), in which the page numbers have to show both section and page number — so for instance page  7-4 for Section 7, page 4. I can add text in front of the inserted page number in the footers of each section to make the page numbers read as I want them to in the document, but I'd like to be able to make the section numbers show up in the Table of Contents as well.

Is there a way to add a text leader to the page numbers in the TOC?

I do a work-around by saving the TOC as a pdf after the document is complete, then copy the text and paste it back into the plan. That at least gets me the page numbers themselves, but then I have to type in the section leader for each page number. Clumsy and time-consuming, and it would be nice to have a more efficient alternative!

Pages v5.6.2 only picks up the integer page number, and not the “custom” section-page page numbers that you have used — when building the ToC. There is no provision available to modify, or add leader content that would prepend your section numbers, or change the integer page numbers itself.

I do not have MS Word here, but I suspect that by now, Microsoft has provided robust controls for its ToC generation.

This is an involved document. Back it up regularly (e.g. Time Machine, USB stick).
