Artist Photos Missing in iTunes 12.5.1
I've noticed a few artist photos are missing since upgrading to 12.5.1. Any ideas on how to fix or refresh? They are mainstream artists, nothing obscure.

I may have found a possible solution (well it worked for some of my missing artist photos in iTunes). I noticed that some of the artists with missing photos had an extra space after their name in iTunes.
So if you go into iTunes -
go to 'artists' under 'library' on the main page -
right click on an artist with a missing photo -
click 'artist info' -
look in the 'album artist' field -
see if there's an extra space at the end of their name -
if so, remove it and click 'ok'.
This has worked for me for most of the mainstream artists in my library, so has got rid of a fair number of those ugly microphone images.
Another point I've noticed is that changing the artist name slightly can determine whether iTunes will display a photo or not. For example 'The Bee Gees' in my library had a no photo even after removing the space. As this is a very mainstream artist, I thought to change the name album artist name to 'Bee Gees' and it worked bringing up an artist photo.
Good luck!
The loss of ratings, play counts, playlists, date added details and the like might not matter to you, but it often does to others.

Oh yes! I will edit the steps to take this into account, it can also affect the iPhone sync with iTunes library.
I simply altered the read write options for everyone to read and write on the newer iTunes app, then deleted it in trash. I copied the "previous itl library file from the relevant folder in iTunes folder then installed the older iTunes app.
Everything back to normal with ratings and play counts as well as album artwork intact.
Nice! Then maybe I went the nerdy mile to downgrade iTunes!
Perhaps, but it was on a link I found on Google and seemed within my capabilities lol
This undoubtably is a bug...the Music App in iOS 10 has nearly all of the artist photos for me where iTunes is showing only about 10% of them. I'm sure a fix will come soon.
Has anyone else who has updated to iOS 10 noticed that compilation albums show up in Artist view categorised under a '?'...? Also there is no way to hide iCloud music purchases so your library just becomes cluttered with all your purchases even though you've not downloaded them to your iPhone / iPad.
I spoke to Apple Support yesterday to make sure they were "aware" of this issue and it was being worked on. Well, they're aware of it but it's not being fixed. I was told this is the way it's going to be. Period.
It'll never be removed. They never remove something they've added.
So are they fixing the bug or are they not? Your entire post was a "wat" there.
Quick question after my restore to downgraded iOS9 iPod, do music file images/artwork contribute to documents and data storage on iPod ?
They were adamant that's it's not going to be fixed.
There is a Downloaded Music option that cuts out all the iCloud/Purchased stuff
wonder if macOS Sierra update later may solve it? prob not but I'm gonna try and if not I'm going to downgrade back to previous iTunes
Not true. Many of the missing photos in my library are from albums that I purchased from iTunes and plenty of the ones that are there are from albums that I did not.
I've just been chatting to Apple support on twitter, they say they are having lots of questions on this and that the matter is under investigation?
Can Apple just clarify their reasoning for us all please? must be someone that could just speak out?
