Why does my original Apple watch not update to 3.0? My information shows my software is up to date with 2.2 and today 3.0 is available. Is this only for new watches?

My Apple Watch shows that I am up to date with 2.2.2. Today 3.0 is available. Is this only for new watches?

iPhone 6 Plus, watchOS 2.2.2, WatchOS 3.0

No - watchOS 3 is available for all models of Apple Watch.

Be patient in waiting for the watchOS 3 update to become available, but start by updating your iPhone to iOS 10:
