Iphone can't be restored (IOS 10 Update)

Like many others capfreak, your device is in recovery mode.

Did you backup your device before upgrading?

If so you can restore the device by plugging it into a PC / Mac and installing the previous iOS version you had on before (possibly iOS 9.3.5 if you have kept yourself up to date).

Did you check for the update for itunes first? The latest one let's you go to 10.0.1. I found that I got the restore error on the older itunes I had.

On your computer, check for an update for itunes, once you have the latest version of itunes installed, 12.5.1 then plug your phone in and tell it to update the phone.

Plug in your phone, it should ask you to update or restore, tell it to update. It will download 10.0.1 and update.

I'm having trouble too. Like the others I updated my iPhone 6s from the phone, then got the iTunes logo, tried to connect to update, got a message telling me to update iTunes, did that, then spent a long time doing the update download, but still get a message telling me to update. What do I do now?

If you updated itunes to the latest version, plug your phone in, and tell it to update the phone, not restore. it will download the 10.0.1 iOS update, this will take a while, then it will update your phone. My download took 7 minutes on a 50mb connection, the file is about 2.23gb.

I don't know Milestone, mine has been doing it for an hour and still says is only half way, so one more hour to go. 😠

Unfortunately it does depend on your internet connection speed as well as the strain on the servers. I got lucky because the connection I have here was fast enough.

Like Milestone777 has said, I think it also depends how much traffic is coming from the server you are connecting to. Took around 30 minutes on one device and 1 hour on another due to traffic here in the UK.
