Can't burn CDs with newest iTunes - Averatec laptop

I've seen this problem posted several times. I've tried various fixes -- repairing/reinstalling iTunes, setting my burn speed at a slower rate, checking with my manufactuer for driver updates (when I spoke to an Averatec rep they said that the necessary driver updates would come from Microsoft and I've updated all I could there). Also, I can burn CDs fine through Windows Media Player so I'm thinking it's an iTunes issue.
Any help will be greatly appreciated! Below is my most recent diagnostic results.

If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.

I have not been able to burn cds using the last couple versions of iTunes. Very frustrating. The three Apple store clerks who I spoke with on two different visits could not figure out the problem either. I get error code Ox77686174.

iTunes can't get past the second track. Seriously, the copying process always stops during track two, irregardless of genre.

Please help.

hmmmm. sound card and video card drivers might be worth checking on:

iTunes for Windows: Additional troubleshooting for burning issues

Updating the drivers on your Windows PC

if you're uncertain whether or not any upgrades are applicable to your configuration, it might be best to check with the Averatec reps again.

another thought ... in addition to the 4450 sometimes being caused by a higher burn speed that the configuration is comfortable with, i've also seen it show up if a configuration wasn't liking a particular type of disk media.

do you have any samples of other media available, if so, can you get a burn with one of them, or does it throw the 4450 no matter what you try with her?
