Windows 10, fully updated, My iPhone does show up in Portable Devices, AND windows can access pictures and such, but iTunes does not show the phone anywhere.  Tried different USB ports, uninstalling the driver, etc.

Can't sync, backup, update, etc.  Phone is a 6S Plus.

Work methodically through this earlier post. Different drivers are being used when Windows treats the device as a camera and when iTunes connects to it.

Ok.  So as an amalgum of several responses, I did get this to work, finally.  First off, my account was a local administrator account, so the admin pieces as to why or why not the driver installed did not make a difference.

This seems to work for Windows 10.  We have had issues with the "Apple Mobile Device Support" in the past.  Not the same issue, but this made me look at that.

What I did to make it work was just to uninstall iTunes and the Apple Mobile Device Support program.

Downloaded a fresh installer from Apple for iTunes and ran that.

iPhone was recognized on first plug in after that.  Didn't even have to reboot.

As far as I can tell running from an account with administrator rights isn't always functionally equivalent to using the right-click > run as administrator option.

You nailed it - I had EXACTLY the same symptoms you described and the key piece of information was the "No Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" part - mine was showing up as Apple iPhone under Portable Devices.  After following the correct sub-instructions, it now shows up as "Apple Mobile Device USB Driver" under the "Universal Serial Bus controllers" section and now iTunes detects it again.

Your post FIXED MY MISSING IPHONE 6 by following the instructions exactly to this point:

    1. Open Control Panel > Device Manager
    2. Plug in your device
    3. Locate Universal Serial Bus Controllers > Apple Mobile Device USB Driver.
It is also possible the device may show under Imaging Devices, Portable Devices or Other Devices or as an MTB USB Device.
    4. Right-click and select Update Driver Software...
    5. Click Browse my computer for driver software
    6. Browse to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers

I stopped here and let my laptop search this folder on it's own and WHAM iTunes saw my iPhone6!

    BRAVO turingtest2!!!!!!!

Open device manager, find portable devices, click on small arrow to open it up. Select Apple iPhone. right click and select update driver software. Click browse and find C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers.  The system will update the driver and the device will appear in iTunes.
