Q: change iTunes photo sync program form iPhoto to foto's

hi.

in short; iTunes wants to use iPhoto to sync pictures on my iPhone instead of photos, how do i change this?

a while back i made an update of the program iPhoto on my mac and since then i'm having multiple problems with it. it went from iPhoto to photos (Version 1.5 (370.42.0)). at first i could not open either, my mac said my library was damaged. now that has been resolved (by keeping trying to open it...). now i only have problems syncing my iPhone with iTunes(12.4.3.1). i get a message that the syncing was not possible because iPhoto wasn't ready yet. thing is, i don't use iPhoto anymore but the new program photos. so how am i able to convince iTunes to switch from iPhoto to photos?

i am however able to get sync my pictures with the photos program directly, but it doesn't count for syncing my phone with iTunes.

if on iTunes, with my iPhone connected, and i try to go to the tab of my pictures, i only get the swirly thing that means it's bussy...

MacBook Pro, iOS 10

    Hey ivevm,

After reviewing your post it seems like you are trying to sync the iPhone with iTunes. When you do this it is trying to use iPhoto instead of Photos. One thing we can do is check that the setting are correct to use Photos instead.
This article should be able to help show where you can change that.

Keep your photos safely stored and up to date on all your devices - Apple Support

    1. Make sure that you have the latest version of iTunes.
    2. Open iTunes on your computer.
    3. Use the included USB cable to connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your computer.
    4. Click on the device icon in iTunes.
    5. Click Photos in the sidebar.
    6. Click the box next to "Sync Photos." If instead you see "iCloud Photos is On," all your photos and videos are already on all of your devices that use iCloud Photo Library. You don't need to sync them through iTunes.
    7. In the drop-down menu, choose the app or folder that you want to sync from.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Have a nice day.

    hi Jeremy,

this would help me indeed if not for two things... i use iCloud, but not for my pictures, just too much of em to simply use the cloud. and the second option, changing the selected program in iTunes is also not working. i can't access the photos tab when my device is connected, i keep seeing the round thing on my screen(can't remember the name for it) that means it is busy... and it keeps going like that. even after half an hour it's still busy... otherwise yes, if i could access that screen i would be able to change it...

    Hi ivevm,

It sounds like the iPhotos app itself is not launching and that may be causing iTunes not be able to open it when you try to sync.
Let's try to repair iPhoto and see if it will launch and then it may open through iTunes and you can make the setting changes.

    1. Press and hold the Option and Command keys as you open Photos again.
    2. The Repair Library dialog appears. Click Repair, and then enter an administrator password to begin running the Photos repair tool.
    Have a good one.
