iOS 10 SMS and iMessage notification issues

So, I’ve still been having this issue and I’ve noticed it’s in relation to something specific.

This only happens when BLUETOOTH is switched on. As soon as I switch Bluetooth off, I get all my notification sounds back. My boyfriend also noticed he started to have the same issue with his iPhone 6s after updating his iOS.

I’ve seen other forums where people have had the same Bluetooth/notification issue so if you’re still having issues with notifications making no sound/vibration see if your Bluetooth is switched on. If so switch it off and see if that works in getting your sounds back.

I suspect there is a bug there somewhere if you find the same as me, that it’s only affected by Bluetooth being switched on. Apple haven’t given any feedback on it yet however.

I tried all the suggestions in this group and none worked -- until I shut down my Apple Watch and turned it back on. Before, I was getting notifications via the watch only. I don't know what it did, but it now works.

I was trying the trick of turning bluetooth off (which works - I reliably get msg tones if bluetooth is off). But then I did as you suggested and removed my email address from the Send&Receive in the msg app. Now I get msg tones & vibration even with bluetooth on - which makes it a much better solution. Congratulations on a great catch! I wonder if Apple knows of this solution.

Go to your actual text messages conversation and click on the i with the circle on the top right hand corner. Make sure your “hide alerts” is not turned on.

This worked for me, for some odd reason it was turned on. Hope this helps.

You need to turn on notifications with an alert type turned on for Messages, otherwise sound won’t play. I had same thing and has worked fine ever since.

Adjust both the “Ringer Level” and the “volume” level. To adjust volume level, hold both the home button and volume up/down both simultaneously.

Worked for me to stop the embarrassing ringing doing church and to restore sound later. Seems to be a different feature relative to my iPhone 6 when I only had to turn down the volume to put it in vibrate mode.

Thanks that did it for me! As soon as I disabled bluetooth on my macbook alert sound returned. Weird since bluetooth was already disabled on my iphone.

Same problem here. And all the replies here are not functional. The kicker is I have the same issue on android and windows. The problem is Facebook/messenger. Apple ok'd poor programmng and google and windows just completely ignored the whole thing.

I have the same problem this has been jumping from I message to texts I’ve had six I phone six and two I phone 7 plus and had this issue since ios10 I’ve done a full restore and the issues has came back on 7 phones came anyone help

For me, this problem was annoying but is now in the rear view mirror. I now have an iPhone 8 and am on the latest iOS 11 release, and no sign of this problem. Thank goodness *smile*. I expect that the updates to iOS are what took care of this for me.

Idk if you're still having this problem but my answer may help someone else! I fought this for an entire day!

I had the same issue with my husband and thinking I was ignoring him. I just replaced my iPhone today and I have an Apple Watch connected this really helped as long as I have my Apple Watch locked I can get notifications on my iPhone. It was the only option that I would use as I do not want to turn off wrist detection it makes my watch less secure, and I use bluetooth while driving and for my watch. I heard back from another user that it wasn’t officially live yet. But it did go live yesterday and now the icon is showing up for me. Should be good to go.

This is what I did it work. I don’t use Bluetooth but my iPhone never made a sound with or without Bluetooth. I’m also posting Incase this helps another.
