This is super hard because those old G wireless cards are probably not easily going to connect to a wireless router with modern WPA2 AES security.

Use ethernet or use EOP adapters. Honestly it is much much easier to forget wireless and just stick to wired connection. EOP (Powerline ethernet) adapters are pretty cheap and work really well for many people.. not all.. but enough to make it first try.

If neither of those are possible then you have a big issue.

    We have a wireless router.

What wireless router? Make and model please.

    Here are your alternatives.

    1. Get hold of an old wireless router..

Any of the N wireless airport extreme would be a good option but any brand should be OK.

Plug it into the HH5 by ethernet and setup as WAP or WAN bypass (just google for it because Apple deletes my posts if I give the full reference).. in apple router you would simply use bridge mode.

Setup the wireless to G or G/N

Setup security to either WEP or WPA1 at most with a 8-20 character password.. Apple airport will have WPA1 + WPA2 which is fine.

Then see if you can find the wireless from the G4.

    2. Get hold of a wireless bridge.

Many wireless routers cannot do bridge but most of the low end TP-Link for example now do support it.

The apple express supports wireless bridge (Apple being apple call it wireless client mode.. just to be different).

Only the express in the apple range can do this.

AirPort Express: What is client mode? - Apple Support

AirPort Express: How to join an existing Wi-Fi network in client mode - Apple Support

You can setup the Express on your later mac .. once in wireless client mode.. you simply plug it into the G4 by ethernet.. what you created is HH5---wireless---Express---ethernet---G4. So the express is a bridge from wireless to ethernet.

However spending money to bring a G4 online.. could be a waste of said money.. to say nothing of the time and effort.

Come to Australia.. in the past you could have got free transport .. or 10 pound ticket.
