Macbook Pro will not start after shutdown

I have a Macbook Pro 2011 laptop that will not start after a soft shutdown. In order to turn it on I have to unplug the battery from the motherboard, press and hold the power button for 10 seconds, re-plug the battery, and add power from the adapter. So far I have done a SMC reset, a PRAM reset, and I did a hardware test. The Hardware test came back with no issues.

Once I get the laptop to turn on, it will stay on without any issues, with or without direct power from the power supply (power adapter). I can even restart the laptop and it will come back up. The only issue is when I try to shut it down.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am hoping to not have to purchase a new Macbook Pro.
