photos will not open

Just like I've always done, I put the photo data card into the slot on the side of my Mid-2010 iMac, running 10.11.5,

only now, the program "Photos" opens to a blank white page with no photos, or albums or anything.

Have I lost all my pictures since 2005? Where are they? I can see the pictures in Affinity photo, so I know the card is working.

Any thoughts?
