I would very much like to know how this is done as well. It seems to me it is not possible, which is a major oversight, imo.

Further, if I remove a single song from 'Up Next', it will reappear after the next 'Up Next' song starts to play.

Not sure if this helps but I have found that just shutting down the app (double clicking the home button and swiping up) clears the next up completely.

I also noticed this, and given how much I use the feature I actually backed out my upgrade and am back on 9.3.5 until Apple fixes this. I would suggest that everyone affected by this bug/oversight/feature removal leaves feedback at www.apple.com/feedback. If enough report it, hopefully it will be addressed. Given the fast pace of patches after release, iOS 10 seems to be a pretty bug-filled release, but they are working to fix it.

I am curious what your use case is when you use the 'clear up next'? And, assuming the end goal is more than just an empty 'up next' list, why you cannot achieve the same ends using the functionality that is there.

I too was initially upset this feature was missing, but after using ios10 apple music regularly since launch, I am finding I have no need to 'clear' up next and I can get to where I need to be by using the existing functionality. I am starting to suspect removing it was a conscious decision by apple and not some oversight.

Yes, if you want to clear up next for the sake of having an empty 'up next' queue, that is more difficult to do now.

But if you are looking to clear the queue so you can have a 'fresh start' when adding more music, I am finding clearing up next is just not needed. It is a bit of a change in mindset, in that you might still have those songs you wanted cleared in your queue, but really, does it matter as long as you are able to listen to what you want when you want?

The only situation I could think of where the lack of a clear up next is troublesome is the times where you have multiple up next queues that could have individually been cleared in iOS 9. And say you wanted to clear one 'up next' that was sandwiched between two other 'up next's' - that becomes a pain in ios10. But that is an edge case for me.

Curious as to what other use cases people are finding they cannot achieve because of the lack of 'clear up next'

The way I use up next, still do on my Macs since the feature still exists in iTunes, and have since the feature debuted, is:

1. Start playing a song. This loads the rest of its album to the up next queue.
2. Decide I want to change things up a bit. Clear the remainder of the queue and add songs from other albums. Alternatively, add songs from other albums and then go back and clear the queue so the original album doesn't pick back up after my playlist plays.

There really is no way to accomplish that easily in iOS 10 now, especially since the bug that re-adds the original queue even after you clear it.

In that scenario, what if you don't focus on having to clear the queue, but simply start adding the songs you want to play next as 'play next'?

Yes, you will still have the songs from the original album in the queue and they will play when your playlist is done, but does that really matter at the end of the day? Maybe it does to you. I think this scenario falls under the 'mindset' change I was talking about above.

As an fyi, if you know you are only interested in one or two songs from the initial album, even with an empty up next queue, you can long press the song and select play next - doing so prevents the rest of the album from being added to 'up next'. This would prevent the scenario you are describing above.

That's a great workaround with the foresight to start out adding songs to the up next playlist. However, with that foresight, I may as well ignore the up next feature and just make regular playlists. The reason I think this is a bug is that iTunes still has the feature, and because cleared songs return to the up next list. Leaving the rest of the album there is also fine if you've got the device on you, but if you've kicked off a playlist to run over dinner on AirPlay it may not be super convenient or graceful to run for your device when your playlist is over and Music kicks back to the original album.

I hear you, I mean, I'd like to see 'clear up next' returned as well.

However, as I use it, I am finding not having the option just isn't nearly the issue I originally thought it would be. I can't imagine a scenario where I'd care if some songs, I wish were removed, started up because the songs I explicitly selected finished playing.

Of course everyone's mileage will vary.

My first post ! Not sure if this will help at all, but I tried the following

create a playlist that's easy to find eg just call it A so it appears at top of your playlists and just add one song to it

If you want to clear out all up next out, then just go to that playlist with the one song and pick the song on it. That clears out everything else that was there though you do have to select that one song each time (so pick something you like :O)

Here's my struggle with this.

If I can't "clear up next", I have an unending playlist of songs. Okay. Fine. Whatever.

If my kids want to hear a song, I choose "Play Next" for that song.

Great.

If my other kid wants to hear a different song, I have two choices: Play Next or Play Later.

Play Next means that the second song choice will play first. So, now I'm working backwards. And that's stupid.

Play Later USED to add the song to whatever was next because the queue was clear. Now it adds that song to end of this gigantic playlist. That doesn't seem efficient.

Bring back the Clear Queue.

While we're at it, bring back the ability to star songs as well. I use that featyure.

In other words, bring back stuff we like.

A new iOS update (10.1) and a new Up Next behavior. Clear All is still missing, but clear means clear now, with adding songs no longer causing the previously cleared songs to reappear. Play Next and Play Later also reliably do what they say. There is a new (maybe? Didn't notice it before) interesting behavior, though. If you clear songs from the list, build a list, and let it play through, it will stop playing after your last song and hide the mini player. Yay! However, if you skip tracks forward past the end, some interpretation of the original playlist before you cleared/added songs will re-appear. Very odd.

Use case is you want to build up a queue from scratch. If you add songs to the top of the queue, order will be reversed. If you add to the end of the queue, the old songs will stand in between.
