Q: IOS 10 - unable to take "Screenshots"

Upgraded to IOS 10 on both iPhone 6 and iPad mini 4. Unable to take "screenshot" on either device. Using old method, takes me back to homepage. Can't find answer from Apple yet? Any ideas?

True, convention would be that any dot-zero release is considered an upgrade.  And anything that follows from the dot-zero would be an update.  But for those of us who just routinely always merely make sure our iOS devices are running the latest iOS version for that hardware, it's somewhat moot to my thinking (I just keep my "iOS" current, regardless of numbering).

I actually tend to think of OS X in that same vein, because I've been using it since the initial public-beta release in 2000 and its always just been OS X version 10.something to me, so over time, the numbered releases all just blur into a continuum in some ways (I still have a powerbook running 10.4).

As with most conventions, there's always a way to blur the lines or meaning

(and lets not even get into all the code names and whatnot)

The middle number is a feature update. The last number a bug or security update.

    Point well made

Apple made a big deal with "names" of kitty cats then CA landmarks on "middle numbers" following 10 - some of which were pretty doggone big deals

I think the "brand mavens" have taken over from the techs.

    Say, "La vee."

Maybe we should just refer to iOS 10 by its code name instead - "whitetail" (http://www.imore.com/ios-version-codenames).

I thought it wasn't working also, but it does.  However, you just have to be quick.  I used to hold the power button and then press the home button, but that won't work now.  You have to quickly press power and then home and it works fine.  I tried both on my iPhone 5S, and iPhone 6S, and both responded to the quick press.  FYI.

You sir, have no idea what I have and do not have.

See my user name in the upper right corner of this SCREENSHOT that I took on my iPad Air 2. This is my iPad. See the version number in the lower right with the red arrow pointing to it? This isn't an altered photo. This is a SCEENSHOT taken on my iPad running iOS 10.

On iOS-10, press Home button and On-Off button at exact same time and release both quickly.  You might not hear the snapshot sound in iOS-10.

If you've not yet had an answer you've been looking for or you just want to simplify the screenshotting process, do what I do and use Assistive Touch. It makes many tasks of your own choosing so much easier to do in general, it's worth the time to try it out to see how you like it. It will take a bit of time to get used to using it instinctively; however, once you do, you may very well wonder why you've never used it before.    I've attached screenshots -    - of the settings process to enable it, however using my iPhone since that's what I'm on at the moment. You'll find Assistive Touch in Settings > General; from there just follow the screenshots as shown. That's my own setup; you're of course free to choose which icons you want displayed & how many. Regards.

*The process is exactly the same on the iPad.*

Thanks a lot. I pressed the sleep button and home button simultaneously and very short and then it worked. Phew.

Seems sensitivity for the timing has increased in  IOS 10.

    Happy now :-))

I'm happy to hear that you got it working, I do agree that the process has changed just slightly and it's a little trickier to do now, but it still works as it always did.

"if still not working, use the accessitive button by pressing the home button 3 times."

    It worked! Thank you! :-)

same problem. it seems that you have to touch the  screen shot buttons JUST RIGHT, or you end up on the home screen. another annoying thing about this 10 update....
